Ray Keith Weir, 50, of Ephrata has been identified as the person driving a black Volkswagen Jetta which left the eastbound lanes on Route 487 and entered the opposing lane of traffic near the Route 54 intersection around 4:15 p.m. in Elysburg, Rapho Township police say and the Northumberland County Coroner's office confirms.

Weir was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force trauma, according to the coroner's office.

The driver of the pick-up truck Weir struck, Robert Bridy, 62, of Shamokin was hurt in the crash and taken to Geisinger Medical Center, police say.

The extent of Bridy's injuries is unknown.

Weir previously made headlines for his history of drunk driving including an incident of fleeing on foot from police officers who pulled over in connection with a theft from a Lancaster County Walmart— only to leave the boots he was accused of stealing behind in the car in 2015, according to police releases at the time.

It is unknown if his struggles with alcohol were a factor in this deadly crash, but he was driving the same vehicle.

Ray was known for his love of music and being a loyal friend according to social media posts.

His funeral and memorial service details have yet to be released.
